Mrs. Allison Bode

I am a “Texas Transplant” from the state of Arkansas. My first job outside of the family business was as a server and hostess at The Benton House in Harrison, Arkansas. I had several jobs in the hotel and restaurant industries during high school and college. These jobs helped me develop a deep respect for the industry and for serving others.

While in college, I found my passion for teaching and began pursuing a career in education. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health from Oklahoma State University. I have been teaching for over 10 years in various subject areas. I began working as an Instructor in the Academy of Culinary Arts and Hospitality at Byron Nelson High School in the Fall of 2011.

I enjoy working with students and helping them become responsible adults. I strive to give students the opportunity to discover their own goals and interests and help them develop the tools to pursue those goals. I am here to help.

Chef Joseph Maher

Chef Maher is a second year instructor at the Academy of Culinary Arts & Hospitality at Byron Nelson High School. Mr. Maher has spent the last twenty years working in the food industry where he was in charge of kitchen in major corporations such as The Cheesecake Factory, La Madeleine, HEB Corporation (Central Market), Eatzi’s and many others. Mr. Maher was also the Chef/Owner of his own fine dining restaurant, Mirabelle, where he was rated a 4-star restaurant for eight years in the Dallas area.

Mr. Maher teaches the Senior Practicum of Culinary class where students are in charge of operating and maintaining the restaurant at the Culinary Academy, Byron Bistro.

My career in food service began as a young boy working the counter and bussing tables in my mom's restaurant, The Good Food Café, in small town Mississippi. After taking a few years off to focus on grade school, I soon found myself back on the other side of the counter.

In the years following high school graduation, I worked as General Manager of Papa John's Pizza (at the age of 18), Assistant Production Manager at Aramark Campus Dining at the University of Mississippi (responsible for feeding over 2,000 students daily), and Sous Chef at several small fine dining restaurants in Mississippi. I graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management (and a suitcase full of stained chef coats) and I moved to Dallas to find work in hotels. After a short stint as a Food and Beverage Management Intern for Hyatt, I found a permanent home in the Antares Restaurant in Reunion Tower at the Hyatt Regency Dallas where I was catering manager and front of the house assistant manager.

Missing the kitchen, I found a wonderful opportunity to join the growing ranks of culinary arts teachers in Dallas/Fort Worth. I took my first teaching job at Skyline High School in Dallas, Texas in October of 2006 and I haven't looked back since. I've always loved being in the kitchen, but I have discovered that teaching culinary arts is my "it". I am excited to be a part of the fabulous team of instructors at the Academy of Culinary Arts and Hospitality at Byron Nelson High School, and I look forward to helping Byron Nelson students discover their passions in life.
