Orchestra Descriptions

Concert Orchestra

This orchestra will provide students the opportunity to review and develop fundamental skills necessary for future success at the Non-Varsity level. Classroom instruction will involve expanding technique, introducing positions, developing vibrato, improving tone quality, learning various bowing styles, and building sight-reading skills. Students may be expected to attend a weekly sectional/rehearsal before or after school if needed. Participation in private lessons, region auditions, and solo/ensemble contest is encouraged.  Students will be offered an opportunity to participate in full orchestra when applicable.

Camerata Orchestra

This orchestra will provide students the opportunity to continue to develop fundamental skills necessary for future success at the Philharmonic level. Classroom instruction will involve expanding technique, introduction to upper positions, developing vibrato, improving tone quality, learning various bowing styles, and building sight-reading skills. Students may be expected to attend a weekly sectional/rehearsal before or after school if needed. Participation in private lessons, region auditions, and solo/ensemble contest is encouraged.  Students will participate in full orchestra when offered in addition to their string orchestra obligations.

Sinfonia Orchestra

This orchestra will provide students the opportunity to continue to develop upper position techniques, vibrato, tone quality, use of various bowing styles, and improved sight-reading skills. This is a competing orchestra at the non-varsity level. UIL Orchestra and festival competition participation is required. Students must maintain academic eligibility to remain in the class. Students will be expected to attend a weekly section/rehearsal before or after school for 45 minutes. Participation in private lessons, region auditions, and solo/ensemble contest is encouraged. Students will participate in full orchestra when offered in addition to their string orchestra obligations.

Chamber Orchestra

This orchestra will provide students an opportunity to perform at an advanced level while focusing on upper position techniques, vibrato, tone quality, use of various bowing styles, and improved sight-reading skills. This is a competing orchestra at the Varsity level and is reserved for those students who make orchestra a top priority. Students will be expected to attend a weekly section/rehearsal before or after school for 45 minutes. UIL and festival competition participation is required. Students must maintain academic eligibility to remain in the class. Participation in private lessons, all-region/all-state orchestra auditions, and solo/ensemble contest is strongly encouraged. Students will participate in full orchestra when offered in addition to their string orchestra obligations.

                                

Philharmonic Orchestra



This orchestra will provide students an opportunity to use techniques and performance habits learned from their normal string orchestra curriculum, and share it with members from the band's wind, brass, and percussion sections.  Students will have weekly collaborative rehearsal(s) with the full orchestra as well as a weekly sectional rehearsal with their own instrument group.  This group serves as our Junior Varsity full orchestra ensemble at UIL.

Symphony Orchestra



This orchestra will provide students an opportunity to use techniques and performance habits learned from their normal string orchestra curriculum, and share it with members from the band's wind, brass, and percussion sections.  Students will have weekly collaborative rehearsal(s) with the full orchestra as well as a weekly sectional rehearsal with their own instrument group.  This group serves as our Varsity full orchestra ensemble at UIL.
