Byron Nelson, Eaton earn UIL Spirit State Championships

The cheerleading programs of Byron Nelson and Eaton high schools each earned a 6A UIL Spirit State Championship on Saturday, January 6, marking the first dual state championship in district history.

With its third spirit state championship in school history, the Byron Nelson Bobcat cheerleading program finished first in the 6A Division II category with a cumulative score of 93.43 points. The score placed the Bobcats firmly in first, as the program earned the only cumulative score greater than 90 points.

Earning its first spirit state championship in school history, the Eaton Eagle cheerleading program finished first in the 6A Division I category with a cumulative score of 93.30 points. The Eagles were a full point ahead of the division’s silver medalists.

In the 5A Division I category, the Northwest Texans finished 14th in the state, advancing to the competition’s finals round for the first time in school history. The Texans earned a cumulative score of 89.20 in the first trip to the state finals, which comes in the program’s third year competing in the state event.
