Multiple NISD student councils receive gold stamp of excellence

Multiple Northwest ISD student council organizations have been recognized as 2022 National Gold Council of Excellence award recipients, acknowledging their exemplary record of leadership, service and activities that serve to improve their school and community.

Student councils at Byron Nelson High School and Northwest High School each received the prestigious award presented by the National Student Council (NatStuCo). The NatStuCo program is supported by its parent organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

“We believe that the student leadership we have on all of our NISD campuses is what separates our schools from others,” said Dr. Ryder Warren, superintendent of Northwest ISD. “The recognition our student leaders from Byron Nelson High School and from Northwest High School have received from the National Association of Secondary School Principals is an example of that commitment to excellence we have from our students. These young leaders are already thinking outside their 'boxes' and they are committing themselves to serve others – we are very proud of them!”

To meet the requirements for the National Gold Council of Excellence award, a student council must meet a wide variety of criteria. In addition to basic requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings and a democratic election process, the councils each demonstrated successful sponsorship and participation in activities including leadership development and service provided to their community and campus.
